How can I soften cabbage leaves whille still on the head in the microwave.to make stuffed cabbage?

I want to be able to pull them away from the core and roll the stuffing in them easily.

Martha Stewart just had this problem on her show this week, but she was boiling the whole head. She cut the core out first, then would drop the whole head into a pot of boiling water for one minute. Then, she'd take it out, and take off a layer or two of leaves that had softened, then plop it back in the water. She also pared the big main "vein" down the back of each leaf so it was more flat and less likely to break.



I have no clue how to do it in the microwave. Sorry!!

Reply:I attempten stuffed cabbage on Monday, and it was a distaster. I could not get the leaves off without them tearing. I had to call my mom (which is what I should have done to start with). Like the previous answerer...you core your head of cabbage, and gently drop it into a pot of simmering water. Pick off the leaves that fall off with thongs. As it simmers, the leaves will just fall away, and you keep picking them out so they don't overcook.

when i make stuffed cabbage leaves, i gently seperate them from the head and blanche in boiling water for a few seconds and then lay them on paper

if you micro them, the outside ones will soften but only the 1st couple of layers and the rest will be cold, to get to the inner leaves you would cook the outer ones and they would be mushy

you would have to take them off to do this

Reply:Bring a pot of water to a boil, and put in the head of cabbage to soften the leaves. Leave in about 15 minutes until you can remove each leaf.

Pull off the top leaves carefully. When you get as many large leaves as you want, set them aside. You can stuff them with ground meat, and cook it with cabbage soup. It is delicious.

Prepare ground meat as you usually do for hamburgers or meatballs.

Fill each cabbage leaf with about 1 full Tablespoon of the meat mixture. Roll the cabbage with the meat inside, and set aside.
Reply:Place the head of cabbage in a one gallon ziploc bag with about 1/4 cup of water....heat in the microwave 2-3 minutes.
