How to make pigs & a Blanket? Meatballs with cabbage wrapped around the outside??

I've looked on line for a possible reciepe and i typed in pig %26amp; a blanket and i came back with hot dogs wrapped in crossant dough, My grandma made it when i was a kid a lot and she was lithuianan, I was just wondering if anyone knew how to make it. I heard it possibly could be called "glumpski" (sp?) in polish. I tried to look that up and came back with no results. Any help would be great!!!

Well you got what you asked for..."pigs in a blanket" receipes. You are wanting "stuffed cabbage"...of which there are many versions of this recipe.



Stuffed Cabbage

1 LARGE HEAD OF CABBAGE

2# OF GROUND BEEF

SALT TO TASTE

PEPPER TO TASTE

1 CLOVE OF CHOPPED GARLIC FRESH IS BETTER THAN POWDER

1 CUP OF COOKED RICE PUT EXTRA WATER IN DRAIN AND SAVE WATER

1 VERY LARGE CAN OF CAMPBELL'S TOMATO SOUP



REMOVE OUTER LEAVES AND CORE THE HEAD OF CABBAGE. PLACE IN A LARGE POT WITH WATER AND BOIL IN SALTED WATER TILL TENDER. REMOVE THE LEAVES AS THEY GET TENDER AND CUT THE TRIM THE RIB OF THE LEAVE SLIGHTLY.

STUFF, TUCK AND ROLL WITH MEAT MIXTURE.



MIX GROUND BEEF WITH SALT, PEPPER, RICE GARLIC AND 2 TABLESPOONS OF TOMATO SOUP. ADD SOME RICE WATER TILL VERY MOIST.



PLACE SOME OF THE OUTER LEAVES OF CABBAGE ON THE BOTTOM OF A COVERED ROASTER SPRAYED WITH PAM. LAYER CABBAGE ROLLS ON TOP. MIX TOMATO SOUP WITH 1/2 CAN OF WATER. POUR OVER CABBAGE ROLLS. BAKE FOR 2 HOURS AT 350o

Reply:1 lb. Ground beef

1 egg

bread crumbs

salt

pepper

garlic powder



Mix well with your hands and form into balls



1 large can tomato paste

1? cans of water

4 T lemon juice concentrate

5 T sugar



In a sauce pan combine ingredients and bring to a boil. Add meatballs and cook until meatballs are firm.



Separate cabbage leaves and boil in water until limp – about 4 – 5 minutes.



Remove leaves and place on plate. But 2 meatballs on each leaf and fold sides over meatballs and roll up.



Put cabbage leaves with meatballs in Dutch oven. Cover with tomato sauce. Cook until cabbage is soft and meatballs are done. (About 1? hrs.).

Reply:Christabel's recipe is really close to my Polish grandma's recipe, except she uses half ground beef and half ground pork. The Campbell's soup really makes it delicious!

1 1/2 lb. ground beef (can be part pork)

1 lb. can sauerkraut

4 tbsp. regular rice

1/2 tsp. caraway seed

6 to 8 wilted cabbage leaves

1/2 pkg. Lipton onion soup mix

1/2 c. water

1/2 c. ketchup



Place 1/2 can sauerkraut in 2 1/2 quart casserole.

Make meatballs with rice and soup mix. Roll in wilted cabbage leaves. Place rolls on top of sauerkraut. Add rest of sauerkraut and sprinkle with caraway seed. Pour water and ketchup over. Bake covered in 350 degree oven for 1/2 hour, uncovered about 1 1/2 hours or until done.



Put cabbage leaves in boiling water to wilt.

Go to allrecipes.com and type in cabbage rolls in the search, and what you are looking for should come up, there are a lot of variations, my husband's family is from Germany and every time we have a reunion there are lots and lots of different cabbage roll recipes in attendance! Yay!
