How do you prepare cabbage that you are going to eat as a side to corned beef?
You can boil it with the corned beef, or shred %26amp; saute it. Personally, I don't really like cabbage cooked, so I just skip it! :)

I like to cut up the cabbage in chunks, put in a microwave bowl, pour in l/4 cup of water, cover and cook until tender. I like to salt and pepper my serving after it is cooked.
Reply:I normally shred and steam, or cut into wedges and simmer with the meat.
Reply:Your prepare it by adding it to the corned beef as it is being cooked. However, you eat the cabbage dry with the corned beef.

1 corned beef brisket, about 4 lbs.

1 juice orange

18-20 whole cloves

1 tsp. whole yellow mustard seeds

1/2 tsp. caraway seeds

1/2 tsp. whole black peppercorns

1/2 tsp. whole coriander



3 lbs. small potatoes, peeled (I like to use Yukon Gold in this dish)

2 1/2 lbs. carrots, peeled and cut into large pieces

1 medium head cabbage





Serves 8



Place corned beef in large stockpot.

TIP:

If your brisket came with a spice packet, you can use that instead of the mustard seeds, caraway seeds, peppercorns and coriander.



Roll your orange on counter, pressing down to release the juice inside. Push whole cloves into the orange, scattering them randomly. Cut orange in half, gently squeeze some of the orange juice onto the corned beef and place clove studded orange halves in the pot. Sprinkle spices over meat, then add enough water to cover. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer until beef is tender, about 3 hours. Drain.



NOTE:



Always slice against the grain of corned beef.
Reply:A recipe that I know of with corned beef and cabbage is where you boil the corned beef with the cabbage and potatoes. Then you eat it that way.



If you are cooking on the side, then boiled cabbage tastes nice.
Reply:Throw it into the pot with the corned beef, about 15-20 min before you're going to eat. I cut it in 4 wedges... You can put butter on top later, if you want, too, but it'll probably have enough seasoning from the corned beef liquid
