no, lettuce would come out more like spinach in consistancy.

it is more a asian type dish if you do it



1 head iceberg lettuce



1 1/2 teaspoons light soy sauce



1 1/2 teaspoons sesame oil



1 teaspoon Shao Hsing rice wine or dry sherry



3/4 teaspoon sugar



1/4 teaspoon freshly ground white pepper



3 tablespoons vegetable oil



3 garlic cloves, smashed and peeled



1/4 teaspoon kosher salt





INSTRUCTIONS:

Core the lettuce and cut into quarters. Separate into leaves. Wash and dry the lettuce thoroughly.



Combine the soy sauce, sesame oil, rice wine, sugar and pepper in a small bowl.



Heat a wok or 14-inch skillet over high heat until hot but not smoking. Add the vegetable oil and garlic, and stir-fry 10 seconds. Add the lettuce and stir-fry 1 minute. Add salt and stir-fry another minute, or until lettuce is just limp. Swirl in the sauce and cook 1 minute longer, or until the lettuce is just tender and is still bright green. Serve immediately.
Reply:i have never heard of cooking lettuce, but if you did it would probably get really mushy

cabbage is alot thicker and harder than lettuce
Reply:Lettuce, like spinach, will wilt as soon as the heat hits it. I don't know how you cook your cabbage, but you won't have to cook lettuce for more than a few seconds.

Reply:no cabbage takes a while to break down and is rugged.You need to flavor it too. even bok choy needs some flavor added. red cabbage is the same. bok choy needs less cooking time. good for stir fry.You could steam them too.

Lettuce is more delicate you can saute' it but you would need to have something with it if you are really hungry. it will not be a lot if you saute even a whole head. It would be good for say a veggie sub.as one of the ingredients.

you could use if for stir fry also since it takes little cooking time.
