Will you will be eating corned beef and cabbage for dinner tonight?

Where did this originate?
Will you will be eating corned beef and cabbage for dinner tonight?
No but I'm planning on making some corned beef hash and poached eggs later in the week. Ireland.
Reply:Made the entire St P's fiesta dinner Sat eve----due to all of our super early Monday jobs.
Reply:I'm not Irish but I want to now. I like do things like eating (period) when it's a tradition for something. Hopping Johns on New Years day, etc. I love it.

You know what I just remembered. I had cabbage last night.
Reply:to be sure!
Reply:Yes, I plan on make that for dinner tonight.
Reply:No I will not but that would be so good. I love corned beef and cabbage.
Reply:No but I'm making it for Easter dinner on Sunday.
Reply:Yes, I will. I would have to say Ireland. They cook boiled dinners over there.
Reply:no. i hate it. it originated as an american thing. poor irish immigrants couldn't afford good cuts of meat. they would buy meat of lesser quality, which was tough, and cabbage, a cheap vegetable, and cooked it in a way that would tenderize it.
Reply:We don't like the traditional boiled corned beef and cabbage, so I'm fixing Reuben soup tonight, which has corned beef and sauerkraut (which is finely sliced fermented cabbage). It's DELICIOUS!

Reuben Soup:

3 c. milk

1 can cream of celery soup

1/2 c. shredded Swiss cheese (2 oz.)

1 (16 oz.) can drained and snipped

sauerkraut

1 tsp. caraway seed

1 can corn beef, diced

3 tbsp. margarine or butter

4 or 6 slices rye bread

Mix milk, soup and cheese. Simmer 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in caraway seeds, sauerkraut, and beef. Heat almost to boiling point. While soup is cooking butter rye bread and brown crisply on both sides on griddle. Cut up as croutons and sprinkle over soup as it is served.
Reply:Is there any other dinner to serve tonight?

Cornned beef cabbage potatoes carrotts and irish soda bread
Reply:No, we are having fish. But I like corned beef and cabbage.
Reply:From what I understand, the Irish DO NOT eat corned beef and cabbage and never have!!

I presume, since corned beef and cabbage is only related to Saint Patty's day in Canada and our USA, it must have been started here. Perhaps, I do not know at all, Irish people in OUR USA country and in northern America which is our continent began to eat corned beef and cabbage as a meal, since it tastes so good, it became known as a holiday tradition? But I'm only guessing.
Reply:Actually we had it last night since we wouldn't all be home tonight. I have leftovers though.
Reply:This is St. Patricks day, thus all the Irish (well, not all) are eating this for dinner tonight.
