Why do they put cabbage on fish tacos instead of lettuce?

I was eating one today, and i wanted to know.

Reply:In Mexico, you are more likely to find cabbage rather than lettuce, thus that is what they serve. So authentically speaking, cabbage is probably more mexican-ey than our american lettuce laden taco.
Reply:for the superior crunch..lettuce can't hold a stand to cabbage in that category....plus the flavor...a bit more bitter ...they enhance eachother
Reply:from my experience with dining i love a good fried pc of fish and generally u get cole slaw with it... and thats cabbage.....
