There are so many different opinions. I want to get it straight because i had a hamster that got wet tail but petco said it was because i gave it too many seeds, which i did. So is cabbage bad? because i just gave my new hamster some cabbage and i'm afraid of losing another hamster to wet tail.
If its okay to feed to them what is a good portion? Specific pleaase.
Is cabbage good for hamsters? Petco told me to feed it cabbage?
Ok so cabbage DOES help hamsters against wet tail. But only give it a tiny little bit and not everyday. I have had lots and lots of hamsters and have gave them cabbage and had no problem and most of them lived for 3 and a half years!
Reply:yes...why are u asking that if a professinal pet store told u?
Reply:in my booklet for hamsters it says its fine to give hamster greens aslong as its only minimal and only a couple of times a week or it could cause wet tail.
too much veg is bad for your hammies!!!
Reply:Its always a good idea to do the research yourself and to NEVER believe what the pet store employees tell you.
They have very little if ANY knowledge about animal care.
I personally would not feed them cabbage, its probably pretty harsh on their digestive system.
Heres what I found:
Do NOT Feed Your Hamster:
Almonds
Apple Seeds
Cabbage*
Citrus fruits (lemon, orange, tangerine, grapefruit, etc.)
Eggplant
Garlic
Kidney* or red beans
Mushrooms
Onion
Pickles
Potato*
Rhubarb
Tomatoes
Junk food designed for humans (chocolate, chips, etc.)

Good luck with your little friend and GOOD for you for checking into it first!
Reply:Nooooooooo!! Dont feed a hamster cabbage! I dont care what those cabbage-heads at the pet store told you.
During digestion cabbage can make terrible loose stools and gas. This is going to upset any animals digestion, but it really affects hamsters.....NO cabbage, potatoes, carrots, onions or garlic!!!!!
As far as what to feed them in fresh foods, I would give only very small amounts maybe once a day, and start out doing it a couple times a week -working up from there....
Good fruits/veggies would include (in tiny bits):
Apple, pear, broccoli, dark greens, or summer squash......
