What do you do with ornamental cabbage when it's "done"?

My ornamental cabbage have lost their attractiveness and are loosing leaves, even though it's still cold here (in Houston, Texas). Do I dig 'em up and throw them away? Is there some way to propogate them?

Dig them up and put them in a compost pile. Chop them up a little if you want to. That will help them decompose faster.
Reply:Ornamental cabbage or kale is like any other vegetable, when it starts to get ugly it's time to let it go.
Reply:Go ahead and dig them up, if left to rot they may develope a fungus and you would contaminate the soil, and your spring plants would become infected. It will be spring soon and that will be less you have to do when you start to prepare your soil for the summer growing season. It is hard to throw away plants isn't it, we just threw away about 8 thousand pansies at the nursery I work for, not because they were overgrown and ugly, we just planted to many[someone goofed up on the numbers]. Happy Planting
