How do i cook cabbage?

I've bought some but not sure about the best and easiest way to prepare it.
How do i cook cabbage?
if you have sausage and cabbage, you can do the following: chop an onion and sauté it over medium heat in some olive oil (or any type of vegetable oil) until it's just soft (don't let it get brown). add some salt and pepper. meanwhile, slice the sausage into diagonal slices and add them to the onions. cook until it's done. (i like to use all beef hot dogs in their place, but sausage might work too). then chop the cabbage and add that after five minutes or so. cook the cabbage until it's wilted and mixed well with the onions and sausage.

remove the pan from the heat and add about 1/4 cup of mustard and mix it well and you've got a great side dish of cabbage and sausage (or hot dogs) that's really yummy. enjoy!
Reply:To prepare - take off dead leaves from outside of the head of the cabbage

Chop up the cabbage, make sure you discard the white middle bit.

Then either boil or steam as you would potatoes until tender. Don't boil/steam for too long as it'll go really soft and yukky.

Some people then fry it in the fat of bacon if you're havin rashers of bacon with it.

Top tip: Make sure you close the kitchen kitchen door while cookin so you dont stink the house out. Cabbage whilst cooking can be a bit smelly.
Reply:steam it it keeps all the goodness then and tastes great mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Reply:with some corn beef in a crock-pot that is so good...and yes season to taste
Reply:I like to blanch cappage and then toss it in a pan with some pepper/ salt and some carmelized onions. This is a terrific base for porkchops, or pork tenderloin. Happy eats!
Reply:It doesn't matter if you boil it, stir-fry it or steam it...just don't over cook it. Add a spot of butter and season with salt %26amp; pepper.

Another good way is to fry some streaky bacon, remove from the pan, then stir-fry shredded cabbage in the bacon grease with some fennel seeds. Drain any extra grease away. Combine the bacon, cabbage/fennel seeds, salt %26amp; pepper and a little creme fraiche...yum! If it seems a bit dry add a little chicken or veg stock and heat.
Reply:can boil until leaves are soft then i fry it. nice
Reply:you can cook cabbage in many ways.

you can shred it and stir fry.

boiling is traditional - but overboiled cabbage is the reason many people grow up disliking cabbage.

streaming is healthiest, but you need a tasty variety of cabbage for it to be interesting.

you don't have to cook it - depending on the type and flavour of the cabbage - you can make coleslaw or sauerkraut.

there are many different cabbages.

some are bitter and tough - these require longer cooking, others milder and more suitable for the raw dishes.

traditional flavourings with cabbage are a small amount of nutmeg or mace.

cabbage mixed with fried pancetta or streaky bacon is very tasty and simple.
Reply:Steam it, you'll keep the vitamins in and it will taste better. it's nice raw too:-)
Reply:Simply quarter the cabbage, cut out the core and finely shred, wash and drain in a colander. Place a little oil in a frying pan or wok and heat, add the cabbage and stir-fry for a few minutes, add a little oyster sauce, shake over a little sesame oil and serve.

Delicious with grills,Liver,Sausages,Pork Chops etc.
Reply:I love cabbage soup!! Choose the cabbage that you like; its a matter of preference, then in a pot of boiling water just add carrots, leeks, green onions or reg. onions, and soup mix, and last add the cabbage. Season per taste.
Reply:I like to steam the cabbage with potatos and chicken. Start with the chicken first in a pot with a little water, a touch of butter, and some complete seasoning. When the chicken has turned white (almost cooked) add sliced potatos and chopped up cabbage. The pot will seem really full, but it will cook down. Season to taste, add more water if needed. I usually add a touch of curry powder to give a spicy flavor. Each with rice and yum yum!
Reply:Wash,Chop and put in a steamer for twenty minutes. Then lightly toss in some butter, black pepper and a little salt..mmmmm
Reply:Myself, I just steam it. I coarsly chop it, put in a pot, add about 1/4 inch of water, bring to a boil, then turn the heat down low and cook til soft. Then I will season, perhaps some butter, bit of salt.

Sometimes I will cube some potatoes, put them in enough water to cover and simmer til they are about done. Then add some shredded cabbage to it and let it finish cooking, til the cabbage is done.

Sometimes, into the water, I've added chicken boullion, or ham bullion/soup base type boullion. Just a little, and don't add salt because the boullion has plenty of salt.
Reply:in a saucepan with water
Reply:i love cabbage!!

chop an onion, some mushrooms and the cabbage - fry them in a little bit of olive oil and serve as a side dish - my favouite at the moment

Reply:best way to cook cabbage is to shred it and cook in a pan with a little olive oil, sort of stir fry it. dont ccok in a pan of boiling water, this ruins cabbage.
Reply:Thinly cut it into shreds and either boil for a couple of minutes, or steam for a bit.
Reply:stick it in a pot with some water....find a heat source....gas,,electricity....coal ....wood...and boil it ....oh stick some salt in......yummy...
Reply:You could fry it or you could boil it. Depends what you eating with it..
Reply:with some corn beef in a crock-pot that is so good...and yes season to taste
Reply:Saute It! Here's a couple of my family's favorite recipes:

CABBAGE NOODLE:

1 head cabbage, shredded

1 onion, chopped

3 Tablespoon butter (or oil)

2 teaspoons sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon pepper

1 package wide egg noodles, cooked

Melt butter in a large skillet, add cabbage and onion and cook over medium to low heat stirring often. Season cabbage with sugar, salt and pepper. Continue cooking until tender. Add cooked noodles, mixing thoroughly to heat ingredients. Serve warm.

RED CABBAGE:

1 large head red cabbage

2 Tablespoons bacon fat or oil

1/2 cup red wine

3 Tablespoons red currant jelly

1 teaspoon salt

dash of white pepper

pinch of powdered cloves

1 teaspoon sugar

Wash, shred and drain red cabbage. Heat bacon fat or oil in large pot. Add cabbage; heat 5 minutes. Add remaining ingredients. Stir well. Continue to stir a few minutes until all flavors are absorbed. Cover; cook cabbage over low heat 25 minutes. Serve hot.
Reply:Usually I cut the head of cabbage into quarters, remove the core, and boil it, often with corned beef, but you can also saute it or steam it, depending on how you want to use it.

These links should help, and I learned some things about cabbage that I didn't know!! :)
Reply:in the mountains of NC we boil it (i prefer steaming) with butter, salt, black pepper, and a whole red pepper (not sliced). boil all of it together. others like fried cabbage (fried in butter).

Reply:This is how my mother always made it. Cut up the cabbage into the size you want to serve. Wash the cabbage. Place in a pan with a lid. Cook on low with salt and pepper and very little water, The water clinging to the leaves from washing it may be enough if you need to add liquid add cream. Cook until tinder (5 or 10 minutes boiling). Add butter and serve.
