Yikes, I had left over corned beef and cabbage from last nites dinner and decided to make a soup?

from the leftovers, however it is pretty salty and I am not sure what to do to tame down the saltiness in it. I added tomato juice which helped some, but it still is overpowered with salt--any savvy cooks out there know how I can salvage this, I hate to waste it!

This is actually an easy fix. Just peel and dice a raw potato and throw it in. Let it simmer for 15-20 minutes and then pull out the potato pieces. The starch in the potato will absorb salt from the broth. If it is still too salty, repeat until desired taste is reached.
Reply:you can strain the salty broth and make a new pot of broth from the old one. just gradually add a little of broth from the old and then add some more water. taste it until it's to your desired taste. just make sure the veggies and meat isn't salty as well. enjoy.
Reply:You can also add some water to dilute the soup and cook it to your desired saltiness and you can throw out the extra soup.
