What is the difference between cabbage and lettuce?

English is my second language. I'm a bit confused of the two words. Are they the same? What are the differences?
What is the difference between cabbage and lettuce?
They are two entirely different plants, they don't taste anything alike, they just look alike. Lettuce is used in Salads while Cabbage is what saurkraut is made from.
Reply:One very important difference is that Cabbage gives you 'gas' and lettuce doesn't.
