The sentence is taken from the short story of a Canadian author. This is one of the expression used in the story by the female character coming from the working class and living in a caravan. The sentence is referred to herself, intended to describe her role in the family.
What does "Kick the cabbage around this joint" mean?
The character is trying to express her feelings of being persecuted, of being the scapegoat for all the misfortunes of the family, of being blamed by everybody for everything.

She (metaphorically) likens herself to a cabbage which everyone kicks around the caravan.
