Who cooks cabbage on New Years Day for Good luck?
Its collard greens for our family!
Reply:Here in Pennsylvania Dutch country we have sauerkraut and pork (and hot dogs) for New Years!
Reply:Cabbage is good, but most folks in the south will be having black eyed peas, ham hocks, and corn bread....sho nuff good
Reply:Mmm, sounds good but my family tradition is that they cook black-eyed peas and collard greens. Apparently there is this old wives tales that you eat them both on New Year's Day to bring good luck and fortune into the new year.
Reply:I don't, its black eye peas for good luck.
Reply:Oh goodness! Love it, but I didn't know it was good luck. I always do the blackeyed peas, cornbread and a cabbage slaw. It has onions, tomatoes, green pepper, cabbage and has a dressing of apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt and black pepper. It is so good with the peas !! If you have cucumbers, add them too.
Reply:Yes...I Have served Cabbage for New Years I've been told that eatting Cabbage(or any greens) on New Years bring wealth...and keeps money in your pockets!!

I live in the South all my life, I've always had growing up and I fix for my family today...

Fried Hog Jawl

Poor Mans Salad some times called or Wilted salad.. it is(cut up lettuce with cut up green onions or onions and use the very hot grease from fried hog jawl over it, this salad is usually made in small individual bowls for each person that wants it, after putting about 1Tbsp. of grease over your salad, eat it right then, if not you will not want to eat it after it sits, "not a good thing after it sits") or/and fresh Turnip Greens from my garden...serving (any)greens keeps money in your pocket %26amp; brings wealth some say.

Cornbread

Sweet Tea

Happy New Years and Many Blessings to All !!
