Whats the difference between lettuce and cabbage if there is one?

They are two completely different veg tables. Lettuce is used on sandwiches, salads and such. Cabbage is used for Cole slaw and sour kraut.

Really a big difference! lettuce are always used raw - no cooking and stuff for all sorts of slaws and for sandwiches. Cabbage are cooked most of the time, but can be used raw.
Reply:well, the taste for starters!
Reply:Um, different plant families. Cabbage is in the Brassicaceae, which includes broccoli, cauliflower and mustard. Lettuce is in the Asteraceae which is the sunflower family.

Did you know that the rose family (Rosaceae) includes apples, pears, plums, cherries, peaches, apricots, strawberries, raspberries and blackberries? Whew! That's a lot in one famiy.
Reply:This question reminds me of the time (not too long ago) my sisters asked me to pick up a head of lettuce for taco salad and I brought them a cabbage. How they laughed at me.

Charles- I think it's lovely that all of those beautiful fruits are in the rose family...it makes them all that much more appealing. :)
Reply:lettuce is @ 90% water and no nutrients based on how lightly colored it is. Cabbage is more of a fiber based veg. I agree and think its more in the class of broccoli, brussel sprouts, etc. Lettuce comes in more of it's own class but has many varieties.

Reply:Along with what Charles said, which is an excellent answer BTW, there are many different kinds of cabbage and lettuce too, each with a different texture and taste.

Reply:They are not even in the same family of vegetables. I am pretty sure that cabbage is more closely related to brocoli than it is to lettuce.
