Here's what I do: Remove a layer of outer leaves and discard. Rinse the cabbage under cold water. Cut the core out with an appropriate knife. (I use a paring knife).

Put the cabbage in boiling water as if you were going to boil the cabbage whole. The leaves will start cooking from the outside in. As they do, they are easy to remove. Let them cook long enough so they don't break or crack when you are folding or rolling them. I can't believe other readers haven't responded, maybe they know them by other names like galompki (various spellings) or stuffed cabbage rolls. They are hot coming from the water so be careful.
Reply:i dont know what you mean by "blankets" but the easiest way is to remove the core of the cabbage with a small knife and blanch it a little before you try to remove them with the hole of the core facing down.really what did you mean for blankets?

i ve never heard of a cabbage blanket or pillow.

the cabbage rolls are called sarmale in romania, ntolmades in greece.
