How do i cook red cabbage?

Here is my favourite way to cook red cabbage - sounds odd but after eting it all my friends want the recipe.

Just cover thinly sliced red cabbage with a half and half mixture of water and malt vinegar. Add enough salt so that you can just taste it in the water/vinegar mix. Slice an onion really thinly and add this to the cabbage. Bring it to the boil and then simmer very gently with a lid on for 20-25 mintues. Strain and serve.

This might help.
Reply:Basically you can use it the same way as a white cabbage, but we tend to saute it with red onion and some lemon juice - the juice prevents the cabbage from turning blue/black colour. Slice some apple in with it too. Add some salt and black pepper and then to help it soften add just a little stock and then place a lid on the pan and allow it to slowly cook down. Add some caraway seeds and replace the lid and again cook for a while. It tastes even better if cooked and then allowed to stand until the next day.

We eat it with paprika pork chops and mashed potato - mm I have the pork chops and mashed potato - now where can I get the cabbage?
Reply:the same way as a white cabbage
Reply:1 medium sized red cabbage, 2 cooking apples, 100ml wine vinegar, 100ml water 100ml redcurrant juice, 75gram margarine, 75ml sugar and 1/2 tsp salt.

Cut the cleaned cabbage into quarters and take out the core. The finely slice the cabbage and place in a pan, cover with water, bring to the boil and boil for approx 10 min. Discard the water. Meantime peel core and slice the apples. In a medium sized pan, comfortably holding the cabbage, bring sugar, water, vinegar and margarine and heat until melted. Add cabbage and apples. Cook under a lid over a low heat stirring now and again for approx. 2 hours. Season with sugar vinegar and juice. Adding a tbsp of carraway or cumin seeds while boiling the cabbage gives a nice flavour. Good with roast pork, duck, goose or venison. For venison use cranberry juice instead. It freezes well so worth making a large portion.
Reply:Chop up cabbage %26amp; onion.

Fry off, add chopped apple %26amp; juniper berries.,dash of vinegar %26amp; some sugar.

Leave to cook very slowly for hour or two.
Reply:Chop it in bite sized pieces. Chop a medium onion. Saute both in about 1 tablespoon of olive oil for about 3 or 4 minutes. This brings out the flavors. Add 1 cup chicken broth or 1 cup water with 1 teaspoon or 1 cube of chicken bouillion, bring to a boil, reduce heat , cover and simmer until tender, probably about 10 minutes. The liquid it has cooked in has terrific flavor, so you can serve it soupy. Or drain the liquid into a container and use for soup.
Reply:I like to steam it, top with a dab of garlic butter and eat it...YUM!
Reply:in a pan
