Planting out cabbage seedlings when is the best time of day?

I am ready to plant out my brassicas from their seed bed but wondered if there was a better time of day to do it to avoid pests.?
Planting out cabbage seedlings when is the best time of day?
The best time to do so is later in the day (after 5 pm) or on an overcast day. You want it to have a chance to start getting used to its new surroundings before the hot sun hits it. For the first few days after transplanting, you can set a cardboard box or the like over it to shade it.

I plant mine with a tin can stuck in the ground around it. This keeps most of the pests at bay because they can't get through metal, the birds cannot peck them off, and the rabbits can find other food easier. You will need to keep an eye on things though because occassionally you will have a cutworm or clipper beetle that will find its way around the can. This also helps with watering and initial shading after transplanting. You can set a piece of cardboard propped up against the side of the can to shade. As for watering, I have my daughter fill each can half full with water. This is enough for the plant.

I have found that the large size of baked beans (I want to say 32 or 36 ounces?) can works the best. They can be reused year after year. Make sure you remove them when the plant gets established or it will be there all summer. This also works on all other transplants in your garden.
Reply:It is always best to plant in the late afternoon or evening or on an overcast day, so that the plants are not under stress from the sun during the first few hours after transplanting.

Pests are usually not a problem until the plants get bigger.
Reply:Either mid morning so say 10:00 - 10:30 before the sun gets to hot or around late afternoon so about 5-6.... :-) hope this helps, good luck with your cabbages x
