Is crispy seaweed really seaweed or is it as i thought deep fried cabbage?

I have been having this debate at work and i always thought it was deep fried cabbage please tell me if i am right or wrong

its ALWAYS cabbage...just go to M%26amp;S %26amp; look at the ingredients on the packaging. real seaweed may be very high in iodine %26amp; this can have a very bad effect on some ppl. Anyway cabbage is cheaper...
Reply:you're right it is cabbage. Normally spring greens or occaisionally savoy depending upon the season.
Reply:I came across this recently when looking for seaweed products and was surprised to learn that it is cabbage and not seaweed.

Or as michael P has put it, it is deep fried shredded cabbage.

Reply:Give this girl a 100. or A+. There is a restraint in Dallas Texas that uses potato and they call it sea weed. The potato is cut like string and deep fryed.

Reply:Yes .. I know a Chinese restaurant owner and I can definately say that is it deep fried shredded cabbage! Still, it kinda tastes like seaweed .....

Reply:If you happen to live in Atlantic Canada, then it really is a seaweed called "dulse", an edible kelp.
Reply:You can tell your colleagues at work that you were right, it is in fact deep fried shredded spring greens.
