How can my son grow a BIG cabbage for a school project?
try this linkhttp://www.bonnieplants.com/Default.aspx... can grow in cold; usually planted in mid-February here in Tn.We grew these cabbage last year.It was a school project.Till the soil, either in a garden or in a flower bed.Make sure they have room to grow(2%26amp;1/2 to 3 ft.).Fertilize the soil or use plant food.Check it regularly for worms or other pest.Really quite easy.Out of 6 plants 1 died, dogs broke one,two were basketball size%26amp; !!!!...2....were over 30 lbs.....like you need a bushel basket to carry them in....oh yeah...1st place!!!!......good to eat too!!!!!....One problem though;if your son is in elementary school...bet you will have to carry them to school for him.
Reply:The biggest head of cabbage I've been able to grow and still taste good is called Flat head Dutch, Sometimes 8 to 10 inches across.
Reply:pick the right seed and type of cabbage and fertilize it good plant it in good soil and keap it watered
Reply:Find a good large growing cabbage type and Miracle the crap outta it.I meen double the directions, and give it good rich soil from store near you.10 inches deep
Reply:We just got our local electric mag and it had a large cabbage that was only 8 weeks old, they had a 3 week old baby laying in it, it was huge.

Reply:Use a fertilizer called "super thrive" it sells at home depot.
Reply:The biggest cabbages in contests are usually grown in Alaska, northern Canada, because of the long daylight hours, and cabbage can grow well in cool temps.

Are you in an area that gets long daylight hours? Just follow directions on the plant marker, give lots of water and Miracle Grow.

Good Luck to your son!
