Has anyone else used cabbage for swollen breast?

I feel like such an idiot for putting cabbage on my breast...but I read it a baby talk magazine and several people have told me to do it. My breast are huge right now and I want them to go down now.
Has anyone else used cabbage for swollen breast?
Yes, it's very soothing and works quite well to relieve the pain and swelling. Just leave the whole thing in there until it wilts, and either change it out or let it be (depending how you feel).

I did this about 3 times when my son was a few days old to relieve the pain and engorgement from my milk coming down.

ETA: Oh just read the addition info. Since you are not breastfeeding you would probably have to do it more than 3 times!
Reply:Cabbage helps with the pain, I used it for two weeks to "dry up" the milk, but it didn't.. Do not let the shower run on your breast either this will stimulate the milk to keep producing.
Reply:Have you already had the baby? If so then just breastfeed :)
Reply:i havent tried it b/c i've heard 2 different things about it.... 1. i was told that it makes your milk dry up. and 2. i heard it just helps with swelling. i'm breastfeeding so i dont want mine to dry up.... but, my nurse at the hospital said something about frozen cabbage also.....
Reply:I used it once when my milk came in and the coolness helped to soothe the soreness. It wont make your milk dry up, i dont think. I have read that if you arent going to breastfeed that you should have your breasts bound so they dont move. Myabe you should call the hospital or your gp. Also my midwife said to run a nappy under water, put it in the freezer and use that on your breasts as its just the right size and shape to cover all your breast tissues and relieve soreness! Good Luck!
Reply:i tried it, seemed to help a bit. I think it is the cool more than anything, not sure if the cabbage itself contributes at all, just nice big, soft leaves. It won't make them go down, it will just ease some of the discomfort.
Reply:I was told that also by a mid wife or you can even take a baby diaper and fill it with warm water and place that on your swollen breasts. It will keep the water in place so you aren't making a mess and getting all wet. This is what the midwife at the hospital told me to do after I had my first daughter. With my second daughter I would just take a warm shower.
