What is the cabbage soup diet and how many pounds can you lose?

The Cabbage Soup Diet is a fad diet that is designed to only be used for 7 days. Each day has only specific foods that are supposed to be eaten, with no variance. It is also called the Mayo Clinic Diet and the Sacred Heart Diet, although neither claims any association with it. It is supposed to provide fast weight loss in order to jump start a healthier long term diet plan. It provides almost no calories and is seriously deficient in nutrition.

Again, this is a fad diet. I own a health and nutrition business, and have taught fitness. I also have lost 37 pounds and kept it off for 11 years. There are better and more nutritious programs out there. Remember that if you lose weight fast, you will be programming your body into a "starvation mode" which will cause it to want to slow metabolism and hang onto every calorie. This will cause you to gain the weight back just as quickly, if not more so.

I will counsel for better common sense than to follow this program.
