How do you cook/bake cabbage rolls?

How do you cook/bake cabbage rolls?
Cabbage Rolls are a tedious job and I have discovered a simpler way of makeing them as unstuffed cabbage rolls.

The recipe for the meat and all the other additions give the cabbage rolls the same final taste.

First I take a half or more cabbage and slice it into 1/2 inch strips

Put the cabbage all sliced into a glass pie plate with a little water and salt it, cover with Saran wrap and microwave it to pre- cook it a bit for about 20 minutes.Set it aside.

Meat balls--- I use 1 lb ground chicken. Your favorite meatball recipe will work with 3/4 cup cooled cooked rice mixed into raw meat and then add seasonings.

1-1/12 lb ground chicken or ground beef

1 egg

3/4 tsp granulated garlic

1 tsp granulated onion powder

3/4 tsp salt

1/4 tsp pepper

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

oil for frying

3/4 cup your pre-cooked rice

Stir all the above ingredients together and form meatballs

Fry them on all sides untill golden brown, in oil in frying pan and remove to a plate.

In the drippings add

1 large can diced or stewed tomatoes

1 can tomato paste

1 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup lemon juice

salt %26amp; pepper to taste

1 or 2 cups tomato juice

Stir the sauce and pour into a soup pot .

Should taste sweet and sour.

Add all the chicken meatballs and all the pre-cooked cabbage and let simmer 1 1/2 hours covered. Be careful when stirring.

After that adjust seasonings to your taste, and enjoy your best efforts at this dish. As I said it's tedious but tastes better the second day and it's worth the effort.
Reply:gently steam the leaves , put filling in them, fold them up like a burrito, top with sauce and bake til heated through

I fill mine with ground beef or turkey, browned, with onion and diced bell pepper, then I add a little cooked rice.

I top them with tomato sauce and grated cheese, bake at about 350 for 40 minutes...yum
Reply:you could use a slow cooker and let them cook on low all day or 8 hours. Or you can cook them in a pan on top your stove. Get them real hot and then turn your burner on low and let them cook that way. Slowly...
Reply:1 saute bell pepper, onion garlic, until soft

2 add above to ground beef, 1 egg per lb, canned crushed

tomatoes, cooked brown rice

3 parboil cabbage until soft enough to roll

4 put as much filling in each roll as you want

5 place in a fairly deep pan and drench with your fav spaghetti

sauce

6 bake 325-350 for for at least 90 min; use your own

judgement
