What to do with cabbage?

I had cabbage once at a chinese restruant.. and it was SOOOO good! It was just really soft.



I bought some cabbage today... I don't really have much other ingrediants. I have soy sauce.... and some seasonings. I really don't want to many calories either.



I figure you boil the cabbage and put seasoning on it? I don't really know. How do I cook it?

What to do with cabbage?
shred it and place in pot and cover with water...add some salt %26amp;pepper and boil for about 45 mins to a hour....I like it simple with butter..

Reply:Toss it in a hot pan with vegetable oil and stir it around over medium-high heat. Don't over cook. Add your soy sauce at the end as a flavoring, not a cooking liquid.



STIR-FRIED CABBAGE



Ingredients:



1 med.-sized head cabbage (about 2 lbs.)

2 tbsp. vegetable oil

1 tsp. salt

Soy sauce

1 clove garlic, finely minced

1/2 piece of ginger, peeled %26amp; minced

1/4 cup of toasted unsalted peanuts

1/4 c. veg broth or water

1/2 tsp. toasted dark sesame oil

finely chopped cilantro for garnish



METHOD:



Coarsely shred cabbage, Set aside until needed.



Heat the oil in wok or skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ginger and garlic; stir-fry 1-2 minutes.



Add cabbage; stir-fry 10 seconds. Lower heat and add and chicken broth. Cover; steam 2 to 4 minutes until the cabbages are cooked but still crisp. Add the salt, peanuts %26amp; cilantro.



Add sesame oil; toss well. Serve with noodles or rice.

INGREDIENTS



* 1 1/2 cups shredded Chinese cabbage

* 1/2 cup sliced celery

* 1/3 cup chopped onion

* 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

* 1/8 teaspoon salt

* Dash pepper

* 1 1/2 teaspoons soy sauce

DIRECTIONS



1. In a small skillet, saute the cabbage, celery and onion in oil for 4-5 minutes or until crisp-tender. Sprinkle with salt, pepper and soy sauce.
Reply:Tried this, the most simpler way, you can add soy sauce if you like, reduce the salt :-



Stir-Fried Cabbage with Carrot

Ingredients

° 100g-150g cabbage, finely shredded

° 6 slices carrot, finely shredded

° 1 clove garlic or l slice ginger, finely chopped

° ? tablespoon olive oil

° salt, to taste



Method

1. Heat oil in a wok. Add the garlic or ginger and fry till fragrant.

2. Add the cabbage, carrot and stir-fry briskly for 1? -2 minutes. Season to taste with salt, transfer to a dish and set aside.

RECIPE INGREDIENTS:

2 slices bacon, cut into 1-inch pieces

1/4 cup chopped onion

1 1/4 lbs. cabbage, sliced

1 tsp. dried parsley flakes

3/4 tsp. salt

1/4 tsp. dried basil

1/4 tsp. each of dried oregano, dried marjoram and black pepper

Dash of red pepper

1. Cook bacon in large skillet over medium heat until crisp; remove bacon and reserve drippings in skillet. Crumble bacon and set it aside.



2. Cook chopped onion in drippings over medium heat for 2 minutes, stirring often.



3. Add cabbage and next seven ingredients; cook, stirring for 1 minute.



4. Cover and cook until tender. Transfer to a serving dish and sprinkle bacon on top.

6 c. Chinese cabbage, thinly sliced

1/4 c. scallions, thinly sliced

1 1/2 tsp. caraway seeds

2 tsp. sesame oil or vegetable oil

1 tbsp. soy sauce



In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium heat and saute the Chinese cabbage. Stir constantly for 3 or 4 minutes until tender and crisp. Stir in the rest of the ingredients; season to taste.
Reply:saute cabbage, carrot, capsicum and spring onions (julienne all) and give flavor it by putting some soya sauce, salt pepper , pich of sugarand add some boiled chicken and chili sauce. Make a sandwitch of it and raost it or grill. Its very tasty
Reply:I would shred the cabbage thin add some julienned carrots, mushrooms, soy sauce and saute it with a little oil until every thing has cooked through. You can add a little water or chicken stock and cook longer if you want it really tender.
Reply:cut it up rinse it slice some onion and saute the onion in some bacon grease(optional) until translucent and then toss in the cabbage mix the cabbage and onions then add a little water cover it partially with a lid and steam for about 15-20 mins...
Reply:Zach W is right on. I do the same by holding the mushrooms and adding chopped bermuda onions.



You can make Cabbage Rolls, Colcannon, Steamed Cabbage, Cabbage soup, even homemade Saurkraut like I do...The list goes on and on.
Reply:You can simmer with onions til soft and had butter or cheese. and dont know how they cook in chinese but you could had little soy sauce to taste it would good.
Reply:Want EASY???....Cut it in smaller pieces,to fit in a pan and boil like you would any other vegetable, till soft, maybe10-15 minutes.
Reply:get the cabbage, go outside in the middle of the street, now roll the thing as far away from you as possible...........



Cabbage is pig food not human food.
Reply:you could braise it. I like to fry it in bacon drippings with onions.
