How do i make cabbage?

i just want a snake and cabbage sounds really good. i have a head of cabbage do i tear it apart and boil it with butter i'm not sure i want it steamed but don't have a steamer so i think i have to boil it

FRIED CABBAGE



1/4 pound bacon,

2 small heads of cabbage

1 large onion,

salt and pepper to taste



In large skillet, fry bacon. While it is frying, core and cut cabbage into bite size pieces, then chop onion. Add to skillet, frying on medium heat until tender.

Reply:if u want it steamed just boil water with a strainer on top, put the cabbage in the strainer with a lid on top of that (have a spot it can release steam so it does not pressurize) and let it sit for about 5 min.



if the cabbage does not fit in the strainer, then ya break it up.
Reply:I shred up a head of cabbage and put it in a pan with a half a stick of melted butter, 2 tbsp of olive oil, and 1 can of chicken broth or stock. It will look like there isn't enough liquid for the amount of cabbage but the cabbage will wilt down. I always add cooked pork chops to it afterwards. Add salt and pepper to taste.

core and cut your cabbages. cut your potatoes like you would when you make mashed potatoes. put them in a large baking dish put the butter evenly on the top. then the slat %26amp; pepper.

cover the dish put it in the oven on 350 for about an hour in an half or till tender. it is really good!!!

INGREDIENTS



* 2 1/2 pounds potatoes, peeled and cubed

* 4 slices bacon

* 1/2 small head cabbage, chopped

* 1 large onion, chopped

* 1/2 cup milk

* salt and pepper to taste

* 1/4 cup butter, melted



DIRECTIONS



1. Place potatoes in a saucepan with enough water to cover. Bring to a boil, and cook for 15 to 20 minutes, until tender.

2. Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Drain, reserving drippings, crumble and set aside. In the reserved drippings, saute the cabbage and onion until soft and translucent. Putting a lid on the pan helps the vegetables cook faster.

3. Drain the cooked potatoes, mash with milk and season with salt and pepper. Fold in the bacon, cabbage, and onions, then transfer the mixture to a large serving bowl. Make a well in the center, and pour in the melted butter. Serve immediately.

Cabbage Casserole



1 small cabbage or 1/2 large

1 med. Vidalia onion

1/2 stick margarine

salt and pepper

1/4 cup mayo.

1 can Cream of Mushroom soup



Topping:

1 stick (1/2 cup) margarine

1 cup grated sharp Cheddar Cheese

1 stack round butter crackers, crushed



Preheat oven to 350oF.

Coarsely chop cabbage and place in 2 to 3 qt. casserole dish. Chop onion and place on top of cabbage. Melt 1/2 stick marg. and pour over cabbage. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. In small bowl, mix soup and mayo together. Spread over top of cabbage mixture.



To make topping: Melt remaining stick of margarine. In small bowl, mix melted marg., grated cheese, and crushed crackers. Sprinkle cracker cheese mixture over top of casserole. Cover w/ foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 15 minutes until top is brown and inside is bubbly.

Mock Bok Choy Cabbage Salad



3 oz ramen noodle soup mix - Oriental flavor

2 tbsp. sunflower seeds

1/4 cup cider vinegar

1/3 cup vegetable or canola oil

2 1/2 tbsp. sugar (splenda is ok)

1 bag coleslaw mix (with carrots) or equivalent shreds of fresh cabbage

1/4 cup sliced almonds

5-6 green onions, sliced (green and white separated)



Remove flavor pack from soup, set aside. Break ramen noodles into pieces and place on lightly greased baking pan. Add sunflower seeds, bake at 350oF for 5-8 min or until toasted, stirring occasionally.



Whisk flavor pack, oil, vinegar and sugar in a jar until blended. Chill at least one hour.



Place coleslaw mix in a large bowl, add sliced onion bulbs (white part).



About 1 hour before serving, mix dressing into coleslaw mix. Place noodles around the outside edge of cabbage, top center with almonds and onion greens. (Makes a nice presentation, but for our family I just sprinkle all of the above on top).



(If you need a large quantity, use the big bag of coleslaw mix from Sams and doubled the other ingredients .)





This is an alternate dressing not using the flavor pack:

3/4 cup oil

3/4 cup sugar

1/2 cup cider vinegar

2 tsp. soy sauce

pepper to taste



Combine and chill before serving.

Asian Peanut Slaw



5 cups shredded green cabbage (about 1 lb)

1/3 cup green onion, sliced on diagonal

1 medium carrot, peeled and shredded

3 Tbsp. natural rice vinegar

2 1/2 Tbsp. peanut butter

2 Tbsp. Splenda Granular or 3 Splenda packets

1 Tbsp brown sugar

2 teaspoons light soy sauce

1 Tbsp. water

1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes (or to taste)

2 1/2 Tbsp chopped, unsalted peanuts for garnish

Fresh cilantro (optional for garnish)



Place cabbage, onion, and carrot in a large bowl. Vigorously whisk together remaining ingredients in a small bowl until smooth. Pour dressing over cabbage and toss. (This slaw is best served within an hour or so of tossing.) Garnish with peanuts and cilantro. Makes 5 (1 cup) servings.

Add the butter after you boil and drain it along with some salt and pepper.I like to add a dash of vinegar to mine too.

Reply:That sounds good - that first recipe. You could

make cole slaw, stuffed cabbage rolls, sour kraut or use it in a stir fry. Mexicans use cabbage in place of lettuce in many orginal recipes.

Reply:Have you ever tried fried cabbage? Basically, you cook 3-4 slices of bacon. Once it is cooked, remove bacon from pan and then put the shredded cabbage in the pan and coat all the cabbage with the bacon drippings. It will not look like a lot of grease but once the cabbage get stirred enough, it will look better. I add red pepper flakes for a bit of a kick and some soul seasoning or season salt. Let the cabbage cook for approx 15 minutes and then remove from pan. I then chop up the cooked bacon and sprinkle it on top before serving.

you can boil the two together don't forget the carrots.

A snake?? That I don't know but I can cook cabbage.

Cabbage takes a while to be tender.

I like to cut it in strips, place in pan with a little oil and butter and cook covered for about 20 mins.

Check for seasoning(salt and pepper), stir and continue cooking till tender ( about 20 more mins.) Keep a check on it and stir it so it lightly browns. Very good served on top of buttered noodles.

Slice thinly (like a julienne)

Slice one onion

Heat 2 tbsp butter and 1 tsp olive oil in a larger skillet

Add sliced cabbage and onion

Season to taste with salt, pepper, and I like cayenne pepper.
