Heard that cabbage is good for drying up breast milk. If ture How do you do it?

I have never tried this method, in fact never heard about until about a week ago. This is what the experts say:

If you're feeling a slight engorgement, or if milk is leaking and annoying you, you can try putting fresh green cabbage leaves over your breasts to help dry up the milk supply.

Wash the leaves, crush them slightly and place them over your breasts inside your bra. Change them when they wilt, but leave them on around-the-clock for 48 hours or so. Drinking two to three cups of sage tea a day will also help dry up your milk. Or, you can just wait and let nature take its course.

Breast pads can help control wetness but they won't do anything to diminish your milk supply. Whatever you do, don't pump routinely. If your breasts are uncomfortably full, you can certainly pump once to empty your breasts completely, and make yourself more comfortable. After that, only pump if you get really miserable, and then pump only for comfort. http://www.babycenter.com/expert/baby/ba...

lol, lol, lol What will you ladies think up next.

In answer to the question.Cut head of cabbage in half, because you have 2 of them, rub cabbage on them GENTLY,turn 3 times around in place, run up the street 5 blocks, run back, jump up and down vigorously for 10 minutes in living room. do this everyday till cabbage gets rotten.this should take care of problem till next time.
Reply:I've breastfed all of my children and have never heard that it's good to help you dry up. I have heard however that it's good to help with pain when you're engorged. You're just supposed to put a leaf in your bra for the cooling of it. I've never tried it myself though. The best way to dry up is to wean your baby off slowly (decrease feedings day by day) and compress your breasts. I've always had to stop almost immediately which is really hard...I wear a smaller bra and an almost too small shirt under whatever I'm wearing. Be prepared though, you'll use more breast pads during this time than you have so far. Good luck!
Reply:All you have to do is stop breast feeding and wear constricting garmets to prevent the breast from refilling with milk. Within a week you should stop lactating
Reply:I did this to dry up my milk recently and it works!! You just get whole cabbage leaves and put them in your bra and leave them in. Let them get soft and put fresh ones in. This helped me dry up, don't really know why!?

You'll smell the cabbage after a while but just keep it up..........

Good Luck
Reply:I heard that with my second. You put the cabbage leaves in your bra. I had the most painful engorgement. I didn't do it, though, because I also heard you have to be careful. I wanted to continue breastfeeding. If you use it too much, it will dry up your milk completely.

Since I wanted to continue breastfeeding, I pumped, used icepacks after pumping and feeding, and took warm showers and self-expressed in the shower. After a few weeks, the engorgement went away.
Reply:There are women literally crying themselves to sleep at night because they *have* to give formula to their babies and you are trying to dry up your milk? Look if it's your work situation, get your doctor to give you a medical note stating that you *must* be given time to pump. If it's just "I don't wanna breastfeed" then I don't want to know about it.
Reply:That's a strange one. Why don't you just wean slowly? And if you stop breastfeeding, express just enough milk to make you feel comfortable. You can either hand express, pump for a minute, or let your baby nurse for a minute. Whatever you prefer.

I weaned my son (11 months old) a month ago and it only took 3 days. He was only nursing 3 times a day so I cut down to 2 and then 1. After completely stopping, my breast felt full after a few days so I let my son nurse for a couple of minutes. It was done after that.
Reply:cold cabbage in your bra, it sucks but it speeds up the milk drying process
Reply:My guess is it gives a bad taste to the milk, hence the babies demand for it decreases and the breast produces less and less.
Reply:a raw cabbage leaf inside your bra relieves the pain of mastitis but as far as i know doesn't affect milk supply
Reply:I have tried this technique and it just slowed the flow. THe best suggest I have is binding your breast as tight as you can stand it
Reply:I just had a baby 1 month ago, and breastfeed. My sister had a baby just before me. She tried the cabbage thing. It really does work!! Just take a cabbage leaf from the cabbage, and put it in your bra. It dries your milk up in a day or two. Beware of the smell, though! LOL
Reply:I've never heard of using cabbage for anything related to breastfeeding. Here's what I do know: DON'T stimulate the breasts AT ALL. That means don't pump milk if you're engorged, and don't express milk manually either- it will just lead to more milk production. Leave those boobs alone! I know it's painful, but taking Tylenol or Advil can help with that. Another key thing is ice packs. Put ice packs wrapped in a towel on each breast for 20min at a time several times a day. Doing this religiously should dry up the milk in a few days. Call your doc if anything seems not right.
Reply:yes, it works.
