Golabki / Golumbki, whats the difference in this Polish stuffed cabbage?

The difference is pronunciation. Golabki is the Polish spelling, but the 'a' has a squiggle under it, which changes the pronunciation of that letter to kind of a 'um' sound.

? = Nasal as the ON in the French BON.

So the second spelling is more likely an English way to spell it closer to the way it sounds.

Reply:Could it be that the cabbages are different. Golabki might be more like a turnip.
Reply:My Grandparents called it both, I think one is just an "englishized" term.....Either way they were yummy to die for! Most European countries have some sort of a recipe for stuffed cabbage.One of my neighbors in Detroit was from Austria and they used to "Kraut" whole heads of cabbage to use the leaves as wrapping for the meat! and they would put some shredded Kraut in with the meat. If you like I could dig out the old family cookbook and send you some ideas.
