1/3 cup uncooked white rice

1 pound lean ground beef
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

DIRECTIONS:
In a medium saucepan, bring water to a boil. Add rice and stir. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 20 minutes.
Bring a large, wide saucepan of lightly salted water to a boil. Add cabbage leaves and cook for 2 to 4 minutes or until softened; drain.
In a medium mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, 1 cup cooked rice, onion, egg, salt and pepper, along with 2 tablespoons of tomato soup. Mix thoroughly.
Divide the beef mixture evenly among the cabbage leaves. Roll and secure them with toothpicks or string.
In a large skillet over medium heat, place the cabbage rolls and pour the remaining tomato soup over the top. Cover and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer for about 40 minutes, stirring and basting with the liquid often.
Reply:You boil one head of cabbage until tender. Mix together ground beef, tomato sauce, garlic, onions, cooked rice, green peppers, and one egg in a large bowl. Once the cabbage has cooled enough to handle it, carefully peel off the leaves. Take a small handful of your meat mixture and place in the cabbage leaf and roll up (secure with a toothpick if necessary), and place in a roasting pan. Pour more tomato sauce over the top and cover with the torn leaves that remain. Cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees for about 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Remove toothpicks after plating. Hope you enjoy!
Reply:I believe you are talking about "Bierocks". Here is our recipe for it.....it is an authentic German recipe, given to us by an Amish friend. It is delicious!!! Enjoy! (NOTE: Bierocks are a characteristic %26amp; portable food of the Volga Germans on the American Plains. A Bierock is dough stuffed with cabbage, onions %26amp; meat, %26amp; baked.)
BIEROCK
white yeast bread dough
2 c. onion, finely diced
1 lb. ground chuck or sausage
1/2 tsp. salt
5 c. cabbage, shredded
sesame seeds
Preheat oven 400 degrees F. Brown ground chuck or sausage, add cabbage, onion %26amp; salt. Simmer for about 20 minutes. Cool to lukewarm. Roll dough rather thin: cut in 4" squares %26amp; fill with meat mixture. Seal edges %26amp; place upside down on a baking sheet. Brush with butter, roll in sesame seeds, %26amp; let rise about 1 hour. Bake for 25 minutes. Makes 14-16 bierocks.
VARIATION: Add a little garlic %26amp;/or ground black pepper for a slightly different flavor.
